Ronnie Herel

Ronnie Herel is a true ambassador of Urban Music so it was no surprise when Radio 1’s sister station BBC 1Xtra, snapped him up as one of their first DJ signings. Formerly presenting their specialist slot ‘The BBC Radio 1Xtra R&B Show’ Mondays 10pm -1am & ‘The BBC Radio 1Xtra Showcase on BBC Radio 1, Sundays 3am - 5am (Saturday nights)

Ronnie has decided it is now time to move on after 10 years at the BBC. Ronnie truly loved playing his mix of urban music to a national and international audience and parted company with BBC radio 1xtra being the most listened to DJ via the 1Xtra website.

For his specialist show he interviewed some of the greats in the world of music from Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Mary J Blige, Erykah Badu, Mariah Carey, Dizzee Rascal, Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson, Estelle, JLS, Alicia Keys to name but a few, along with supporting new talent, giving them the opportunity to receive a greater audience.

He now presents ‘The Big R&B Show on a brand new station founded by the original Kiss 100 fm group called Mi-Soul radio (www.mi-soul.com) every Monday night from 9pm – Midnight.

Ronnie has more than paid his dues in the R&B club scene which date back to 1989 with his first DJ promotion The Kat Club at Bar Rhumba (London). Moving on from this Ronnie established himself further with two impressive London residences “Club YoYo” and “Funk” @ Sound.

He also joined Trevor Nelson at the MTV Lick Parties in Ayia Napa and Leeds and on the Radio 1 stage at the Notting Hill Carnival, all this led to Ronnie being voted best club DJ by the readers of ‘Blues & Soul’ magazine in 2000. Ronnie’s success has further been recognized with two MOBO nominations in the categories of ‘Best Radio Show’ and ‘UK Best Club DJ’.

At the moment you can catch Ronnie at his London Residency first Friday of every month @ The Bedroom Bar (Universal Soul) (Shoreditch - London).

Internationally he spins in Switzerland, Ayia Napa, Dubai, Jersey, Croatia, Ibiza, Slovenia and Russia, also being a veteran DJ at the legendary ‘Southport Weekenders’ and SunceBeat festival in Croatia playing Soulful House sets as well as big classics from yesteryear! Within the field of television Ronnie appeared in the BBC’s ‘Babyfather’ and stretched his skills further to acting with script and first onscreen kiss in ‘Holby City’.

He has been interviewed on both BBC Breakfast and Sky News as an opinion former and for his depth of knowledge of urban music. MTV invited Ronnie to be one of a handful of DJs to have a one off five day slot called ‘DJ Takeover’.

Showing further his versatility, Ronnie was support for the then new talent Amp Fiddler at the Jazz Café and ‘The Brand New Heavies on their UK tour at the Jazz Café, as well as supplying the cuts on their 2003 release. On behalf of the BBC Ronnie has brought onto stage artists like John Legend & Lemar to perform at their Maida Vale studios and Trey Songz at BBC Radio 1s Hackney Weekend.

Not content with just playing the music, Ronnie’s skills include production and remixing, with his first ever record in 1989 ‘Its Too Late’ with group Quartz hitting the UK national chart at number 8.
