Sy started djing professionally in 1989 playing hip-hop, soul and house. He gained a residency at Venus in Nottingham in 1990 whilst still at university. The night became legendary and because of this he was booked at events all over the Midlands, such as Nemesis in Leicester, Amnesia in Coventry, Time in Birmingham and at The Eclipse (the ravers’ mecca!) Having gained a name as a Dj with a style of mixing that was unique to the newly born rave scene, other promoters such as Dreamscape, Helter Skelter, Obsession, Fantasia, Interdance and Perception included Sy on their line-ups. Club work all over the country and abroad followed and helped to establish his reputation as the “Scratchmaster”. Sy’s individual mixing ability has maintained his popularity with ravers young and old and his legendary Old Skool sets are still in high demand. Many ravers who frequented such classic events as Fantazia, Tribal Gathering and Ark (Leeds) still pack out their local clubs when Sy is booked to play, because he plays a clever selection of current banging hardcore together with classic Old Skool anthems. Sy is still known to be one of the hardest working and in demand DJ’s on the circuit and can be found playing all over the country every weekend. Recent gigs include Slammin Vinyl at Milton Keynes (5500 people), Fantasy Island in Skegness (11000 people), Hardcore Heaven at Milton Keynes (3000 people), and numerous other clubs spanning the entire country. Indeed Sy can be found in 3 or 4 different clubs each and every weekend. As well as his weekend djing Sy co-owns an impressive studio in Aldershot, Hampshire, and it is from here that Quosh Records, one of the hardcore scene’s most prolific labels, originated back in 1994. Along with his partner DJ Unknown, Sy has produced some of the biggest selling tunes in the scene – notably their remix of “Discoland”, and the truly original “Bring Me Round To Love”. The duo also produce prolifically across all dance music genres, have had chart success with UK Garage, and produce material under various pseudonyms in the Breaks, House and Drum & Bass scenes.
