Mikee B’s outstanding DJ career began in 1987, in the heart of the then thriving rare groove, soul and funk scenes. However, it was with the advent of the rave scene that his career really took off and his name became synonymous with the new musical experience that was the rave culture. It was at this time that Mikee decided to get together with his friend and fellow DJ, Jason Kaye to form ‘Top Buzz’. Together they developed the scene that they were both passionate about and this led to them consolidating their considerable skills as music producers and releasing their club anthem ‘Living In Darkness’. As a DJ always seeking out new challenges and exploring emerging scenes, it comes as no surprise that Mikee became interested in the Garage scene whilst it was still embryonic. He went on to become a pioneer of the explosive new genre and it was whilst he was playing Garage sets on the pirate radio station ‘London Underground’ that he met Timmi Magic and Spoony and the three went on to form the inimitable Dreem Teem. With their unrivalled talents and knowledge combined, the Dreem Teem wasted no time in building an impressive CV. They were snapped up quickly by KISS FM and then Galaxy FM and then of course, Radio 1, on which they now enjoy two shows. Their Sunday morning show between 10am and 1pm is one of the stations most successful shows and ‘Dreem Teem Presents’ on Monday mornings between 1am and 3am, gives them the opportunity to play all of the tracks that they love to listen to and therefore, play out to the nation. In addition to managing his flourishing radio career, Mikee has taken time to establish an independent record label, ‘High 5ive’, which he set up with the aim of introducing new talent to the scene. To date, he has enjoyed two successful releases. With a constantly jam packed gig schedule, taking him all over the UK and abroad, Mikee stays loyal to his original fan base by putting on a regular night, ‘Reunion’ at Arches, in London. The success of this night apparently knows no bounds; hence Mikee will be launching similar nights in various locations in the UK and Europe during the coming year. Mikee is also no stranger to television, with the Dreem Teem’s own show, ‘It’s a Deem Teem Thing’ and appearances on various documentaries, including ‘I Love Jamaica’ for the BBC, already under his belt, his relationship with the small screen is set to burgeon in 2003.
