N-Joi formed in 1990 when Nigel Champion and Mark Franklin were only 20 years of age. In the late 80's early 90's dance music was unheard of in the National Charts and the underground warehouse parties were still illegal, which is where you would find N-Joi. At this stage not a single instrumental dance tracks had entered the charts until N-Joi came along. Their first release on De-construction Records (BMG) was 'Adrenalin' which was a hard hitting, full on techno sound.
N-Joi had only ever played live to no less than 30,000 people at most of the legal and illegal parties, so this was the beginning of their journey into bringing underground dance music to the forefront of the public consciousness.'Adrenalin' their first release entered the national charts at No.19, which they also performed (without lyrics) on Top of the Pops. They soon were in big demand and hooked up with singer / performer Sam Sprackling aka Saffron. She brought a sexier edge to the band on stage and it also enabled them to bring vocals to their underground sound, making themselves more appealing to a wider audience. They released 'Anthem' performed by Saffron, which stormed the national charts at No.8. They were probably the most successful dance act at this time.'Anthem' was also doing extremely well in the USA and entered the Billboard charts at No.1. N-Joi then released 'Live in Manchester' which was very different to the more commercial hit 'Anthem', but still entered the charts at No.36. By now N-Joi were busy touring the USA, UK, Europe and Australia and it wasn't too long before international artists such as Madonna and Annie Lennox were requesting remixes. They remixed 'Little Bird' for Annie Lennox but they unfortunately were too busy gigging to remix for Madonna and they had to decline her offer! N-Joi's manager at the time had taken on an unknown rave act called 'The Prodigy', who loved what N-Joi did so much that they decided to form a band themselves. Eventually over the years 'The Prodigy' became more successful than N-Joi but still wanted to perform with them, so when they were offered a tour they requested N-Joi to support. Subsequently N-Joi toured the UK supporting 'The Prodigy'. N-Joi - The Moment…
N-Joi has since been offered numerous gigs and lately they decided to accept these requests. They have been actively performing around the UK and Scotland since the beginning of 2002 due to the demand. They were subsequently approached by a management team called, Attend. Nigel and Mark realised that N-Joi was attracting a lot of interest again, they decided to re-group and write some new material as well as including re-mixes of their old hits. There new live show will take the crowd on a journey from their old skool origins through to their present day sound alongside a dynamic live show.
N-Joi has been booked to play at various venues around the UK, and talk of playing at Glastonbury and T-in the Park is currently underway.
